     　本片是關於加拿大傳奇鋼琴音樂家顧爾德的最新傳記紀錄片。本片以現今的眼光回顧顧爾德的一生和作品，讓顧爾德現身說法，讓樂迷親賭這位藝術家在鏡頭前發亮的個人魅力。導演布諾‧夢憲傑翁曾寫過三本研究顧爾德的專書，在前作《郭德堡變奏曲 - 顧爾德彈巴哈》就曾拍攝 1976~81 五年間顧爾德演奏這首巴哈經典曲目的各個版本，並深入訪談顧爾德，留下兩人精采對話的珍貴影片。二十多年後，導演集結綜合現存所有與顧爾德相關的紀錄資料，不論是音樂或文學方面的題材，試圖探問關於顧爾德天賦異稟這個向來吸引廣大樂迷和媒體興趣的話題。片中藉由匿名的顧爾德「信徒」們的參與，造成一種顧爾德親自回答提問的假象。同時，顧爾德又似乎是整部影片的敘事者。                                    
     　本片導演是一位重量級的法國紀錄片導演與小提琴家，從 70 年代起致力於音樂相關影片的拍攝，貢獻非凡，三十年來完成多位當代古典音樂家的紀錄片，包括鋼琴家李希特、小提琴獨奏家曼紐因、大衛‧歐伊斯拉特夫、男中音費雪迪斯考‥等偉大音樂家。其中尤以《郭德堡變奏曲 - 顧爾德彈巴哈》、《曼紐因中國行》以及《謎之鋼琴家》廣獲好評，得獎無數。為慶祝舒伯特二百年誕辰，他與知名的阿爾班‧貝爾格弦樂四重奏合作完成《死神與少女》。另一部得獎作品《小提琴家的藝術》則以兩集篇幅廣泛介紹二十世紀最重要小提琴演奏家如海菲茲、艾薩克‧史坦、米夏‧艾爾曼等人的音樂歷程與成就。被稱為是以「耳朵」拍片的導演。
