◎简　　介

　　博蒙特是一个嗜赌却不走运的马场饲养员。在输掉了一场牌局之后，博蒙特被迫放弃了几匹马来弥补损失。随后博蒙特在赛马比赛中赌上了全部身家，然而他那匹名叫Virginia's Future的马却在领先时突然摔断了一条腿，他因此又输了。博蒙特自私的妻子想让驯马师迈克·多诺万杀死那匹受伤的马，并抛弃了博蒙特，去找富有的邻居格里夫·卡特。博蒙特也失去了与女儿弗吉尼亚的关系。博蒙特和多诺万设法挽救了这匹马，它还生下了一匹名叫Confederacy的小马，但迫于经济困难，他卖掉了小马和Virginia's Future。Confederacy受到了它的新主人，一个外国旧物商的虐待，Virginia's Future则被迫像一匹驮马一样辛苦劳作。后来在一次赛马比赛中，迈克·多诺万的儿子丹尼骑着Confederacy来到赛场，博蒙特这次赌上了他攒到的一切，再次孤注一掷，最终他赢了。他与女儿团聚，买回小马，让它在牧场过上了好日子。
